"My dream for this ministry is to see a place where new students are being reached, and as 'reached students' grow they reach new students."

Putting this cycle of spiritual life in place reflects Jeff's desire to lead a youth ministry that is balanced. "That's really my goal," says Jeff. "We must not be so outreach oriented or so inreach oriented that we miss kids. We want to minister to all of them, whether they've been here a long time or they are brand new."

Raised in Manteca, Jeff attended Calvary Community Church along with his father, who is a banker, his mom, who is a math teacher and his brother, who today is an attorney in Dublin, California. Jeff received his BA in Psychology from UC Davis, with minors in history and religious studies. At an Intervarsity Fellowship Bible Study there he met his wife Stephanie. The couple married in 1997 and have a son, Ryan, born in 2003, and a daughter, Jenna, born in 2006. Until Ryan's arrival Stephanie was an elementary school teacher.

Jeff did his ministry internship at McLean Bible Church in McLean, Virginia, where Pastor Mike Pedlowe was his mentor. Interestingly, Mike grew up in our church and was trained for ministry here, so Jeff's connection with First B actually began in 1995, in Virginia. He has partially completed his Master of Divinity degree at Western Seminary.

Jeff's call to ministry began when he was young: "I was one of those guys who always knew or had the feeling that God was calling me. By the time I graduated from high school I was pretty convinced." That call and the ensuing preparation led Jeff to get training through his home church and then at McLean Bible, moving on to serve as student ministries pastor at the First Baptist Church of San Jose, California for four years, and most recently as high school pastor at Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore, California.

"Without a doubt," Says Jeff, "the passion of my life is to communicate the truths of the Bible to a generation of young people in a way that will inspire them to become dynamic followers of Jesus Christ. I love the local church and the unique potential it has to impact the lives of young people. As a student minister for the past 11 years, it has been my privilege to lead thousands of students toward a deeper commitment to Christ."

Jeff is convinced today's students need to be encouraged as to their true potential. "They have the opportunity to change things," he says, "but they are often told they can't. They are growing up in a culture where being a Christian is frowned upon. I want to change their perception of themselves and let them know there is a great purpose out there. I want to empower them to make a difference and help them do it!"
